The outside of my studio is taking shape, but we still have a ways to go in the rose garden (I mentioned in an earlier post that my husband, my SWEET husband, is making a rose garden for me in front of my studio). The shrubs and climbers are planted, but we still need to make a border, probably rock, and fill in the whole area with either mulch or gravel. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards gravel, but am open to other ideas. Will post pictures of the progress. Of course, it won't look great for a couple of years. If only we'd done this two years ago. What is that quote? The best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago. The next best time is right now!
oh definitely the mulch. Do the lasagna garden - a thick layer of cardboard, then dirt, then another layer of cardboard, then mulch about 3 in. deep. They'll load you a pick up bed full at the recycle center for CHEAP - ask for the "good" stuff. The earthworms love the cardboard, and any weeds that come through are easy to pull. :)
I live in Texas with my high school- sweetheart-husband, we have two grown daughters and two sons-in-law and I love, love, love them all. I'm an artist, business-owner, gardener, bird-watcher, I enjoy taking pictures and walks, reading, writing and more...we live in the country (and love it!) with 2 dogs, 2 cats, 3 cows, 10 chickens and there is rarely a dull moment. Happy Day!
